2024 Heise Award Winner Announced

We created the Heise Award in 2009 to recognize the Gamma Chi Alumnus, who, as Jack Heise ’49 did for decades, embodies a dedication to both Sigma Chi and the University Maryland (UMD) through their time, talents, and treasure. Jack Heise is considered one of the greatest Gamma Chi and UMD Alumni.

We are pleased to announce the winner of the 2024 Heise Award: Greg Schaub ’82. Greg, like Jack Heise, has distinguished himself as both a Gamma Chi and UMD Alumnus. Greg has served as a Director of the Gamma Chi Education Foundation since the Foundation was created nearly 15 years ago. Greg took the initiative to create the successful partnership between our Education Foundation and the UMD Smith Business School’s Center for Social Value Creation. This partnership launched a new undergraduate course three years ago, which has students consulting semester-long for an organization that has a social mission. Our Education Foundation provides funding for this 300-level course. This partnership is a first-of-its-kind at UMD between an academic department like the Smith Business School and a Greek undergraduate chapter.

Greg forged the partnership and remains involved with the project each semester. Greg was quoted in a Smith School publication in the Summer of 2023: “We hope to be a conduit for helping students find experiential learning opportunities, internships, and eventually jobs.”

Greg was recognized by UMD as a 2021 Honoree in the Alumni Excellence Awards in the Legacy Award category. This award honors an Alumnus who has made a significant impact on their community over their lifetime. Each year up to three Legacy Awards are granted celebrating the personal and professional achievement of Terps like Greg.

Greg previously served on the UMD Alumni Association Board of Governors. Greg and his lovely wife Patti have boosted UMD presence in their adopted State of Texas through networking events for potential students and endowing a student scholarship.

Greg retired as a Managing Director at JP Morgan Chase and now has a fintech consulting practice.

Please join us in congratulating Greg on this honor.
