We recently spoke with undergraduate Chris Castelli ’27, the sophomore Consul, about how his involvement in Sigma Chi has impacted his life. Keep reading below to hear what Chris had to say about what Sigma Chi means to him, and why your support is vital to the continued success of our Chapter.

“Hello, my name is Chris Castelli, and I am a sophomore Finance and Information systems major from North Potomac, Maryland. As far as my career aspirations go, I would like to explore and learn more about the financial industry. Consul will be my first leadership role in Sigma Chi, but I’ve always been willing to become more involved since I joined in the spring of last semester.
Coming to Maryland, I didn’t know much about fraternities or what they had to offer me, but a high school friend who was already in Sigma Chi, Nate Jacobs, reached out to me during rush. After meeting the guys and rushing a few other fraternities, I came to the conclusion that Sigma Chi was the best fit for me. Ultimately, the Brotherhood and ideals the guys stood for made it an easy decision to pledge.
Being involved with Sigma Chi has significantly contributed to my growth as leader and becoming a more well-rounded man. I’ve learned how to use my voice to take action and advocate for what I believe in, while also listening to and valuing the perspectives of others. I’ve had to step out of my comfort zone, and in doing so I have become a much more resilient person.
One of my best memories so far was our away weekend last spring, when we went to Corolla, North Carolina. Spending time with all the guys is always fun, and this trip gave me an opportunity to become closer with some of the older guys. This was the first time I got to take a step back and appreciate the bonds I have with all the Brothers.
I think the bonds created through Sigma Chi will last forever, and the values instilled in me now will guide me through life. I can confidently say Sigma Chi has made me a better man, and I now have lifelong friends that will support me through any challenge I will face.
Having Sigma Chi on campus adds significant value by creating a true Brotherhood and fostering a sense of community. In a world where connection and support are crucial, Sigma Chi offers endless opportunities to get involved. Sigma Chi instills the necessary values every undergraduate will need for the rest of their life and equips them with the tools to succeed.
Although I am young, Sigma Chi has already given me so much, and I feel it is my duty to give back to the chapter to ensure its future success. Additionally, giving back helps sustain the values and traditions that make Sigma Chi special. Fostering a culture of gratitude and responsibility will only reinforce the strength of our chapter.
Without Sigma Chi, I wouldn’t have grown into the leader I am today while meeting some of my closest friends
Any alumni who would like to support the chapter or get involved, please feel free to reach out to me via email at [email protected].”
